Film ‘Sense and Sustainability’

29th March 2017 @ 7:20 am - 9:30 pm

In the feature-length documentary film Sense and Sustainability we ask the question, “Is a species set on endless growth sustainable?” In answering this question we explore the scale of the human endeavor and its impact on the environment. The answer becomes clear as we discuss population growth and overconsumption, and consider the water and other resource scarcity that we are already facing today. We begin to examine what it truly takes to be sustainable, and we explain the dangers of the Cornucopians Conviction (this misconception that technology will save us). We then explain the importance of the education and empowerment of women and rights to contraceptives and international family planning, and how this relates to a sustainable society.

We are coming to the realization that the Earth is a planet with finite resources that can no longer support our perpetual lust for more. We aim to provide solution on stabilizing the environment and the economy. We ultimately hope to bring awareness that “it has never been a question of how many people the world can contain, but how many it can sustain”. Through this we believe that people will come to the conclusion that a species set on endless growth is unsustainable; and we hope that they will furthermore aspire to alter their lifestyle and become more conscious of how they affect the world around them.
