About us

Wycombe Friends of the Earth is a voluntary campaigning group covering High Wycombe (and surrounding area) in Buckinghamshire. It aims to help residents learn about environmental issues and to become directly involved in addressing them at a local level.

We are affiliated to Friends of the Earth, one of the UK’s most influential pressure groups and the largest environmental network in the world. Friends of the Earth exists to protect and improve the conditions of life on earth – both now and for future generations.

At present we have about 25 members. Regular monthly meetings are attended, on average, by about 14 individuals, who share ideas/information and develop campaigns.

Since our formation in 2007 we have been involved with the following:

  • Food chain campaign
  • Plastic-Bag Free Eden Centre
  • Schools Energy Survey
  • Better energy efficiency in shops, offices and public spaces
  • Conserving important suburban green-spaces
  • Traffic and transport solutions
  • Reducing excess packaging
  • Participated in the creation of “Food-On-Our-Doorstep” a guide to locally-produced food
  • Meeting with Wycombe MP to seek support for Sustainable Livestock Bill
  • Contributions to the drafting of a Carbon Reduction Framework setting medium-term
  • Environmental targets for the District
  • Garden-share scheme
  • Lobbying the main shopping centre operator about its “green credentials”
  • New District Council waste collection contract
