SUMMARY:Environment Day
DESCRIPTION:World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974\, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. \nAbove all\, it is the ‘people’s day’ for doing something to take care of the Earth or become an agent of change. That ‘something’ can be focused locally\, nationally or globally; it can be a solo action or involve a crowd. \nSee website for events and more information. \nWorldwide. Every 5th June.

SUMMARY:Combating desertification day
DESCRIPTION:World day to combat desertification. \nThere is probably no greater issue than land in the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals that touches everyone. From the food we eat\, to the clothes we wear and the houses we live – it all stems from land resources. In order to “leave no one behind” as proclaimed in the new Sustainable Development Goals\, achieving land degradation neutrality needs to be in the forefront to meet our requirements and develop sustainability. \nEvery 17th June. SUMMARY:Population and Sustainability evening - film\, presentation\, stalls\, cash bar and live entertainment
DESCRIPTION:An evening exploring population and sustainability – by non-profit group Population Matters High Wycombe. Featuring ‘Wycombe for Fairtrade’ stall and the singer/songwriter and climate campaigner Cheryl Hillier. \nIn the documentary film Sense and Sustainability we ask the question\, “Is a species set on endless growth sustainable?” In answering this question we explore the scale of the human endeavor and its impact on the environment. The answer becomes clear as we discuss population growth and overconsumption\, and consider the resource scarcity we are facing today. We then explain the importance of the education and empowerment of women and rights to contraceptives and international family planning\, and how this relates to a sustainable society. \n7pm – Live entertainment\, licensed bar\, stalls \n7.25pm – Introduction to other local env groups (incl Wycombe FoE) and to film \n7.45pm – Film \n8.20 – Live entertainment\, licensed bar\, stalls \n8.40 – Presentation and discussion \n9.45 – Live entertainment\, licensed bar\, stalls \nFor more info email the organiser at highwycombegroup@populationmatters.org.

SUMMARY:Population Matters High Wycombe - meet on most Tuesdays
DESCRIPTION:Non-profit group Population Matters High Wycombe currently meet most Tuesdays at the Lido Cafe on the Rye. \nContact us on highwycombegroup@populationmatters.org if you want to attend. You can buy your lunch in the Cafe or bring your own. \nThe group aims to further gender equality and women’s empowerment because when women have equal say in determining family size\, they generally opt for smaller families and smaller families are more sustainable. We also try to improve access to family planning services\,   because 200 million women worldwide currently don’t have adequate access. This is especially important in developing countries such as Africa where birth rates and malnutrition are high. \nSee top solutions to climate change according to recent research: \nwww.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/12/want-to-fight-climate-change-have-fewer-children \nand www.drawdown.org/solutions-summary-by-rank

\nSee top solutions to climate change according to some recent research: \nwww.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/12/want-to-fight-climate-change-have-fewer-children \nand www.drawdown.org/solutions-summary-by-rank
