There will be a big second hand bike sale (bikes for sale can be brought to the village hall from 9.30am clean and in good working order. FoE will keep £5 of the sale price and the rest is given to the seller at the end of the day. Unsold bikes must be taken back). There will also be many stalls selling locally produced or environmentally friendly crafts, free childrens activities, a cafe and much more. It is a good chance to meet your local Friends of the Earth group and find out more about our latest campaigns. Entry is free, everybody is welcome.

This stimulating and informative lecture is devoted to the highly topical topic of water in all aspects, from how this essential resource circulates around the planet via the "water cycle" and is affected by the changing climate, to marine life under threat from polluted oceans and ending with a review of  the situation here in the chalk streams and wetlands of the Chilterns.

Dr Mark Brandon, OU Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science, is a polar oceanographer with more than 30 research articles to his credit.  Principal Academic Advisor to the BBC/OU co-production series Frozen Planet, he has a strong interest in the public understanding of science and is a keen and sought-after public speaker. 

 

Professor Charles Ainger is Visiting professor in Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge with an interest in designing sustainable solutions that will be embraced by everyone – not just by those who profit most.
